Book App Alliance Karen Robertson event

Thinking of making your own children's book or game app with your own writing and artwork? Is it a good idea for investing your time, talent and other resources in? If you are, or have ever wondered, mark your calendar for the evening of Wednesday, October 21. That's when children's book app author and chairperson of the Book App Alliance Karen Robertson and I will hunker down for a live hangout, a virtual marshmellow roast with you (see banner above) to talk about the present state of kids' book apps. In 2012 amid much excitement in school and school library circles, the video version of MoonBot Studio's story app, The Flying Books of Morris Lessmore won the year's Oscar for best animated short. it seemed to herald the dawn of a new age of interactive digital publishing. The vehicle to carry this new media? Tablets, smart phones and fancy e-readers (like the Kindle Fire.) What's happened since then? What have the major trade publishers been doing, as of late with these technologies? How successful have they been? IAre book apps still a place for independent self-publishing authors and illustrators? And if so, how can they break themselves in? Where's the line between a game app and a book app? And does it matter for a writer or illustrator looking for interesting, worthwhile gigs? And more fun topics are afoot. Karen will weigh in with some of her observations and assessments, but we'll also want to hear yours in this public session. Let's hammer out the possibilites (and pitfalls) together in this fun, truth-seeking and, we hope eye-opening campfire debate/discussion.
